Following the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent challenges, restrictions and disruptions around the world, HR and learning professionals are preparing for the ‘new normal’ in the workplace. But, with even more changes still on the horizon, should we be considering the ‘next normal’ instead?
As we move into the next phase of eased lockdown restrictions, many organisations will be dealing with remote leaders, social distancing and a mix of office-based employees and those working from home. Not to mention re-introducing furloughed workers into businesses which may have significantly changed over the last few months.
How will L&D move to support workers in the next normal? How can managers conduct performance reviews without being able to physically observe employees? How will juniors learn from remote leaders?
All of these questions are deliberated within this download, based on an open discussion between 35 senior HR and learning professionals. The organisations represented are at different stages of their return to workplaces, with some certainty that things will never be the same again, and others reporting that some employees would be very happy with a complete return to ‘business as usual’.
While we cannot know for certain what the next few months will bring, we do know that an agile, productive and engaged workforce will be more important than ever. Learning’s role is likely to become increasingly important in order to equip individuals and teams with the skills, attitudes and behaviours to navigate the times ahead. But, learning will also have to adapt to each stage of the new normal.
