Introduction to Management

As we move forward in our careers, many of us enjoy the challenge of managing other people. But just how easy is it to go from being focused on our own progress to being responsible for others? It requires a shift of focus and a new set of skills – this will require a two-way learning journey with their team. New managers will need to learn about the difference between management and leadership, gain insight into different management styles, and work through useful models that will set them on the road to success.

It's more than just a course.

This is a learning journey, suitable for individuals and teams.

If you have recently been promoted to a management role, congratulations! As well as excitement and a sense of pride, you might also be feeling some anxiety and uncertainty about living up to the requirements of the position.

We know that managers play a crucial role in engaging, developing, and supporting employees, enabling them to do and be their best at work every day. Achieving that requires a whole new set of skills that can’t be learned overnight. The first step is to understand how your role has changed, what it takes to be a successful manager, and what your team really needs from you.

We will cover all of that in this 90-minute session, as well as raise awareness of some of the more common traps that new managers are prone to falling into and how you can avoid doing so yourself.

  • Have you recently started out as a manager and are not yet sure what this means for you?
  • Do you want to make a great first impression with your new team and start as you hope to go on?
  • Have you thought about the kind of manager you aspire to be and the skills and behaviors that will take you there?
  • Are you clear on what your team really needs from you and how to provide it?

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Take steps to avoid the common traps that new managers risk falling into
