This course provides a comprehensive insight into everything you need to know and understand before embarking on a career in training design, development or delivery.
During the workshop you will explore the role of the trainer and training itself in detail: the purpose and benefits of training in an organization, the cycle of training, what a trainer actually does, and all the skills and attributes you need to be successful in the role. You will also cover the fundamental principles of how people learn and the natural cycle of learning; considering how to reflect those principles in the learning activities you facilitate in the training room.
Completing this course will prepare you for the next step of taking a deeper dive into the process of designing and delivering training.
Suitable for anyone who is new to workplace training and development, and would like to understand the fundamentals of how people learn and the context of workplace training.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and benefits of training to organisations
- Describe both the training and learning cycles and their impact on the training role
- Recognize and overcome the barriers to effective learning at work
- Identify the behavior and skill requirements of an effective trainer
- List all the activities that an organizational trainer may be involved in
- Explain how to incorporate the principles of how people learn into the delivery of training
- Defining the real purpose of training and how it benefits individuals and organisations
- The systematic training cycle and the role of the trainer at each stage
- The differences between facilitation and instruction
- Push and pull styles of training and what this looks like in practice
- Kolb‘s Experiential Learning Cycle and the associated learning styles
- The key principles of adult learning and how to reflect these in the training room
- The fundamental questions a trainer needs to be able to answer for their learners
- What type of activities a trainer can facilitate that are engaging and learner-centred
- Organizational and individual barriers to learning and what a trainer can do to overcome them
