On this course we explore how to flex your individual communication style to positively influence your stakeholders and motivate them to adopt your perspective.
You will use two key models to leverage different organizational sources of power and to increase your influence by applying different styles to suit different individuals and situations.
You will also explore the purpose and benefits of persuasion and learn how to use a range of approaches to persuasion, based on Cialdini’s six universal truths. This is a highly practical course, and you will practice a range of techniques and benefit from peer coaching.
This course is suitable for anyone who would like to get better at influencing and persuading their key decision-makers and stakeholders.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Define influencing and persuading, and when to use each one
- Identify the sources of power in an organisation and use these to increase your influence
- Explain how to use different influencing styles to suit different people and situations
- Identify the different social styles and use them to positively impact your stakeholders
- List the Six Principles of Persuasion and explain how they can be used in practice

Available for delivery to groups and teams, our bite-size learning sessions are short bursts of knowledge covering the what, why, and how of a topic, and delivered at pace. Expert-led sessions can be delivered virtually, face-to-face, or you can choose a combination, and they can be run either standalone or up to three sessions in a day.

In today’s era of flatter organizational structures and increased cross-functional working, developing personal effectiveness is essential, and key to this is developing your ability to persuade and influence others. Success in the workplace depends on building strong relationships and influencing others so that we can work with people and through people.
You will need to influence both internal and external stakeholders: your manager, your team, your peers, project groups and external partners. All stakeholders are different, so it is imperative that you have a good understanding of what persuading and influencing are, what they can achieve, and how to confidently adapt to meet the needs of different people and situations.
We are influencing others all the time – through what we do, what we say, and how we say it. Getting it right will help you to sway opinions, gain buy-in, keep projects on track, build your reputation and develop your career.
On this 90-minute workshop you will learn how to use two key models to draw on organisational sources of power and to increase your influence by applying different styles to suit different individuals and situations. You will leave with an action plan for increasing your own influence in the situations you have identified as important and for using some effective techniques of persuasion.
