90-minute live session delivered virtually or in-person (Perfect for use as part of a blended learning programme)

This programme is available for groups and teams

Many of the problems that we face in the workplace cannot be solved from a singular point of view. Today’s problems are often highly complex, and therefore may require a variety of skillsets, perspectives, and approaches to resolve them. This means that in order to be successful, we need to find ways to incorporate a variety of different thoughts, ideas and viewpoints into our working practices: in other words, we need to be able to collaborate effectively.

You can collaborate within a team, across diverse teams, and within a project environment. It’s not the solution to every workplace challenge, but when done well it can have huge benefits. Collaboration may be conceptually straightforward, but in practice it requires a set of complex skills and a clear commitment and motivation to achieving a common goal. We must recognize that collaboration is a process, not a single event, and that everyone involved needs to be emotionally engaged in the process and remain committed to that goal.

You may find that the process of collaboration is not necessarily quicker, but by committing to you can create new opportunities and produce better results in terms of innovation, flexibility, alignment and engagement. Collaboration also brings people together and enables them to learn from each other’s diverse ideas and perspectives.

The aim of this virtual session is to help you to evaluate how you foster collaboration within and across teams and projects, and to develop your ability to collaborate more productively. You will also explore the key challenges of collaborating remotely, considering how to overcome distance and build a basis for successful collaboration.

  • Do you rely on the input of other people to achieve your goals?
  • Do your efforts at gaining cooperation and commitment sometimes fall flat?
  • Are you confident that you can get the right people on board with your projects at the right time?
  • Would it be beneficial to have a clearer purpose and direction when you are involved in a collaboration effort?
  • Do you sometimes struggle to keep a collaborative project on track?
  • Have you ever experienced misunderstandings and miscommunications with your cocollaborators?
  • Define what good collaboration looks like and why it is important for organizations to adopt a collaborative approach in many situations
  • Describe the barriers to collaboration and how to overcome them
  • Describe how to foster collaboration within and across teams
  • Implement a plan to improve your own personal commitment to effective collaboration
