Psychological safety is the belief that you won’t be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. A lack of psychological safety at work has major repercussions. First, when people don’t feel comfortable talking about initiatives that aren’t working, the organisation isn’t equipped to prevent failure. And when employees aren’t fully committed, the organisation has lost an opportunity to leverage the strengths of all its talent. In this topic we look at the benefits of psychological safety, the consequences of not having it, why it is sometime hard to speak up and how leaders can foster a culture of safety.
