Don Smith

Don is Founder and President of LEARNINGSHIP International, a national and global professional services firm, located in Ottawa, Canada. After spending 25 years with the Canadian Federal Government as a Learning and People Development Manager, he retired in 1995 and is now dedicating his consulting endeavours to global leadership development with the International Civil Aviation community, the Canada School of Public Service, in Ottawa, and Hemsley Fraser.

Since 1982 he has also been a professor of Adult Education with the Graduate School of Education, University of Ottawa and is Vice President of Learning and Performance Technologies, with Méndez England and Associates, in Washington DC, a partner organization of Hemsley Fraser in the US Federal market.

Don lives in a bi-lingual, bi-cultural, and multi-generational family environment and leverages those life experiences to relate stories, demonstrate empathy, and design innovations for his clients. He focuses on developing his clients’ strengths, thus making their weaknesses irrelevant.

While residing in Canada, Don has had the opportunity to work in 42 countries in the Americas, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Sub Continent, Asia, and the Pacific. His facilitation activities are conducted in English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese. In all of these areas of the world, Don has been able to share his relevant stories, to build learning experiences with wisdom and insight, and to create people networks.

Don is a musician, singer, artist, actor, story teller, dreamer, and creator, incorporating all of these roles into his global learning and leadership facilitation interventions.
